QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS with Nathan Collett, Managing Trustee & Founding member.

[Question]
What is the vision and mission of Hot Sun Foundation?

[ Answer] Social transformation through media and art is our vision. Our mission is to educate, develop talents, and train youth and children from the slums so that they can tell their own stories. We want their stories to travel far to inspire other slum dwellers around the globe. We want to create role models and leaders. We believe that media and art can enable slum dwellers to reshape their lives and bring about social transformation.

[Question] Tell us about the TOGETHERNESS SUPREME Feature Film

[ Answer]It's something we have been working on for almost two years. It's been a challenge. There are so many exciting stories in the slums, trying to pick just one, was challenging!
During the recent post-election violence in Kenya, some of the worst violence was in Kibera and other slums, we decided to reconsider our story once more. There was no way of telling their story without including what happened in 2007.
The entire process has been in collaboration with youth in Kibera. I am inspired by what Mira Nair did in 'Salaam Bombay' in India and what Fernando Mierelles did with 'City of God in Brazil. During the filming of TOGETHERNESS SUPREME, all heads of departments had at least one youth trainee from Kibera. For 30 days, the trainees had a crash course in filmmaking, while taking part in a one of a kind project in their home area. The actors were also non-professionals, 99% of them drawn from Kibera. Working in collaboration is exciting, although it was time consuming. The film is now in post production, with some of the trainees working on the some teasers and the behind the scenes videos. We look forward to sharing our film with the community in Kibera and with all of you around the world!

[Question] Further comments to share with our visitors?

[ Answer] We welcome all of you with open arms. We invite you to learn more about our work and to give us feedback. Our work in media with slum youth is something new & different in Kibera, and we want to continue to evolve and to grow. We have a lot of fun and enjoy all the unexpected twists and turns of our creative journey. Over one million people live in Kibera but over a billion people live in slums around the world. This is the global reality of our planet today. Media and art can play a fundamental role in bringing social transformation in the slums worldwide. Join us! You will be glad you did!
