Nathan Collett

Greetings! My name is Nathan Collett, people often call me Sigilai or Njoroge, my Kenyan names.; I have been making films in East Africa for eight years. I am the managing trustee and a founding member of Hot Sun Foundation.

I am primarily a filmmaker. I came into this area because there was such an overwhelming need. It wasn't my plan, but now it has become my passion. During the shooting of the KIBERA KID short pilot film, I met so many talented actors, writers, and filmmakers in Kibera. Yet I was struck by the fact that they had few, if any, opportunities to develop their talents. Something needed to happen. That something is Hot Sun Foundation.

Habari. I am delighted to be working with the Kibera Film School where I can share my experience in the Kenyan film and TV industry. I worked in one of Kenya’s leading TV stations, then moved to a leading production service company in East Africa and became Production Manager / Line Producer. I am training Kibera youth how to make films while carrying out my work as Producer on the Kibera feature film TOGETHERNESS SUPREME. This is a chance for me to give back to the community, share and nurture talent from the very gifted youth of Kibera.

Greetings. I am honored to be able to share my experience in several commercial and non government organizations as an accountant in Nairobi, Kenya. I have also worked as a financial auditor. My background means that I can ensure the transparency and financial accountability of Hot Sun Foundation and the Kibera Film School. I also enjoy watching the short films of our trainees and giving feedback.

I am from Kibera where I have worked in community theatre. I started working with Hot Sun Foundation in 2008 during the Kibera Kid Street Theatre project. As the Kibera Film School Coordinator, I am using everything I learned in my website training at Nairobits and as a digital downloads technician with the RED ONE Camera in the TOGETHERNESS SUPREME feature film production in Kibera. My work is extremely challenging but I enjoy the creative possibilities it offers for me and other Kibera youth.

With your help, our stories and films will travel far!
